Cannes Travel Information

Situated on the French Cote D’Azur, Cannes has been a glamorous holiday resort since the mid-18th Century.

Surrounded by wooded mountains, which shelter it from continental winds, with 3,000 hours of sunshine a year and mild winters, Cannes is a wonderful year-round holiday destination.

Millionaires, artists, writers and poets have confirmed its reputation as an alluring and inspirational city. The annual Cannes International Film Festival has placed it firmly on the exciting world stage of film stars and movie makers.

From the "Palais des Festivals" in the west to the Port Pierre Canto in the east, the flower borders of the Croisette unroll like a fresco in a symphony of colours. The Croisette runs parallel to the Rue d’Antibes – two bold elegant avenues which boast luxury hotels and world famous shops.

The rue Meynadier is a traffic-free street overflowing with life and local colour, where you can find "masters" of cheese, delicatessens, and local crafts of all kinds. The Forville market provides more shopping pleasure with local farmers and fishermen sell their produce here – Monday is set aside for the flea-market.

Cannes is a magnificent centre for sports fans. Its wonderful bay, idyllic climate and the mildness of its sky prompted the world yachting authorities to choose Cannes as their "playground". Other pleasures include water-skiing, parascending, sailing and scuba-diving. If you prefer dry land there’s horse-riding or tennis and with 13 golf courses there’s bound to be a green to suit you – and don’t forget, in winter there’s also the skiing.

Stars and crowned heads have been coming to Cannes for many years. Whether you stay in a charming little hotel or luxury "palace", all proprietors strive to satisfy the most demanding visitors with the courtesy and elegance of their welcome.

Give way to temptation of Mediterranean specialities (bouillabaisse, aïoli, ratatouille...), rub shoulders with the local truffle, garlic, and the black pearl - the olive. The town is studded with "gourmet addresses" where you can taste the charms of this colourful cuisine and appreciate the thousand and one delights it offers.

So take time out to enjoy the nights of Cannes – casinos and musical fireworks evenings add the finishing touch to a holiday in one of the most enchanting and sensational cities in the world.
