Rhodes Travel Information

This glorious island is one of the sunniest places in Greece and has over 130 miles of golden sand beaches. It also has an abundance of fascinating history and tradition, which together with great hospitality and sizzling nightlife makes this an irresistible destination for thousands of holiday makers every year.

The ancient history of this lovely island of traditional white-washed houses and pine-clad hills is fascinating. From the 7th century B.C. to the 3rd century A.D. Rhodes was the dominant power in the Aegean. The ruined fortress of Rhodes Town is now a UNESCO Monument of International Heritage and there is the ancient Acropolis overlooking the sea at Lindos.

For lively nightlife, Lindos and Falkiraki are the best choices. Lindos is buzzing town with numerous bars, clubs and tavernas while in Faliraki the famous nightlife goes on until dawn. Rhodes town has a cosmopolitan choice of nightlife and some excellent restaurants.

For the kids there is the Faliraki water park, the Aquarium and the Rodini Animal Park in Rhodes Town, and the whole family will enjoy the mini-trains which tour the resorts of Faliraki, Afandou and Rhodes Town.

Exploring
Old Rhodes town is home to many museums and art galleries and there are walks on many parts of the old city walls. There are great views of the old town and Mandraki harbour from the ancient city wall. And there are boat trips around the coastline offering a view from the sea of many of the imposing historical sites. There are 136 miles of coastline to explore and plenty of superb beaches to choose from. Turkey is only 12 miles away or you can visit the beautiful island of Symi.

Beaches
Rhodes has 136 miles of coastline with lots of superb beaches to choose from.  Some of the best are at St Paul’s Bay, Tsambica and Lindos Beach. Many of the beaches in Rhodes are so clean that they have been awarded EU Blue Flag status.

Eating Out
There is good range of choice, prices and some excellent seafood. The local specialities include chicken souvlaki in pitta bread and the shrimps at Symi or Lindos are particularly good. There is international cuisine in the north and Rhodes town and in the south you are more likely to find typical tavernas.  

Shopping
You can shop in designer boutiques in the modern part of Rhodes Town, but you are much more likely to find that unique gift or souvenir in the Old Quarter’s narrow winding streets choc full of interesting shops.
